Strengthening Leadership with Strategic Advisory

A major leadership development comes with the appointment of Dr. V.K. Saraswat - former Director General of DRDO, and Chief Scientific Advisor to the Indian Minister of Defence, and currently a member of NITI Aayog, as the Chair of Abyom’s Technical Advisory Board. Dr. V.K. Saraswat brings unparalleled expertise in strategic defence and aerospace programs, and his guidance will play a pivotal role in aligning Abyom’s technological roadmap with national priorities and international competitiveness. His involvement underscores Abyom’s credibility and the critical role the company seeks to play in India’s strategic space sector.

Intellectual Property & Proprietary Technology

Abyom has filed a patent for its Rocket Engine Test Facility - a first-of-its-kind modular and mobile test infrastructure designed for rapid deployment and scalable propulsion testing. In parallel, the company is patenting other proprietary technologies, catering to the company’s vision of reusability & re-ignitability. While details remain confidential, these innovations represent the backbone of reusable rocket architecture and demonstrate Abyom’s focus on protecting intellectual property as it scales globally.

From Lab to Launch: Engines, Tests, and the Road Ahead

Abyom has successfully conducted over 250 hot-fire tests across two prototype rocket engines - the 1.5kN BSE-I and the 2.5kN BSE-II - at its mobile test facility. These prototypes have validated key aspects such as ignition reliability and combustion efficiency, serving as engineering testbeds for the higher-thrust engines. Building on this foundation, Abyom is now transitioning from lab-scale prototypes to commercialization. The company has opened a $2.5 million fundraising round to scale its operations, expand test facilities, and advance its roadmap toward automated vertical take-off and landing demonstrators. This step marks Abyom’s evolution from proof-of-concept to shaping India’s future in sustainable, reusable spaceflight.

At the core of Abyom’s work is the development of dual-use technologies - innovations that can serve both commercial spaceflight and defence applications.

Key technologies with dual-use potential include:

● Rocket Engine Test Facility: Designed for both civilian rocket development and defence propulsion research, as well as catering to upcoming propulsion groups and academia.

● Engine Control System (ECS): A control system module, a modular platform adaptable for rockets, missiles, and advanced propulsion systems

● Spark Torch Ignition System: A high-reliability igniter suitable for reusable space engines and defence-grade propulsion units

By positioning these systems as adaptable across domains, Abyom is addressing two strategic needs: affordable access to space and strengthening national defence capabilities.

Next Frontier: Cryogenic Propulsion & Facilities Looking ahead

Abyom has begun work on cryogenic-capable propulsion systems and supporting ground infrastructure. Cryogenic technology represents a leap in efficiency and thrust performance, enabling longer-duration missions and scaling to orbital-class launch vehicles. By indigenously developing cryogenic systems, Abyom aims to contribute significantly to the Make in India campaign, reducing dependency on foreign suppliers and positioning India as a leader in advanced propulsion technologies.

Tested Foundations, Scaled Ambitions

Abyom validates its core technologies through extensive testing campaigns, including repetitive trials at its mobile test facilities. These test programs serve as proof-of-concept for scalability. The next phase of development will focus on flight demonstrators, including a vertical takeoff and landing (VTVL) prototype that showcases fully autonomous launch and recovery. This milestone will mark a first for India, positioning Abyom as a serious player in reusable space access.

“With these technologies, we aim to cut per-launch costs significantly and introduce India’s first VTVL demonstrator,” said the Founder & CEO- Jainul Abedin, “This is our leap toward affordable, reusable, and sustainable space access.”

A Sustainable Vision for India’s Space Future

With a vision firmly rooted in reusability and sustainability, Abyom’s roadmap reflects a broader shift in the global space industry - where innovation is aligned not just with performance, but also environmental and operational responsibility. The company is setting up ground infrastructure that supports multiple reuse cycles, automated engine health diagnostics, and rapid integration timelines. As the space-tech ecosystem matures in India, Abyom stands out by doing what few have attempted: bringing the entire lifecycle - from design and integration to testing and demonstration, under one roof.

"At Abyom, we believe reusability is not just a choice - it is the future of space exploration,” underscoring the company’s mission. “Our innovations are designed with both commercial scalability and defence readiness in mind, ensuring India is equipped to lead in a rapidly evolving global space economy.” stated Founder & CEO- Jainul Abedin.

From institutional recognition and leadership expansion to hundreds of successful engine tests, Abyom is building the foundations for a new era of sustainable space access. About Abyom SpaceTech and Defence Abyom is India’s first private full-stack SpaceTech company, developing reusable launch systems and advanced space infrastructure.
